How I Saved Over $1600 Without Trying
Are you struggling to save money for an emergency account or savings account for you and your family? Unlock the secrets to effortless savings! Discover how one person can save over $1600 without even trying. Learn how you can do it too.
Just after New Year’s, at the beginning of 2016, I made a promise to myself. I wouldn’t call it a resolution, because no one ever seems to follow through on those. Instead, I decided I would make a dedicated decision to follow through on a journey. A journey to save money, and work on paying off my debts.
The problem was, at that time it seemed my husband and I were spending more than we were making. So where do you start saving money when you are living paycheck to paycheck?

Insert Digit.
Digit is an automated savings account that analyzes your spending habits from your bank account, and transfers money in small increments into a personal savings account. The account is through Digit and continues to build as long as you leave it hooked to your account. Sometimes it is cents, sometimes it is dollars, but all of the time, it is money that you really do not even miss.
Sound too good to be true? I promise it is not! As you read in the title of this post, last year I managed to save over $1600.00 and I didn’t even have to think about it.
Still on the fence? Here are some of the perks of using Digit to save for yourself!
Bank Insured
Just like a traditional bank, like the one you probably use now on a weekly basis, Digit is FDIC insured up to a balance of $250,000. This gives your online account the same, or very similar insurance protection as the bank you use every day, and helps to give you the peace of mind that your money is safe.
Withdraw Protection
Digit is so confident in its ability to withdraw money from your account that you are not going to miss, it that they are willing to pay your overdraft fees on two different occasions. Of course, they will have to overdraft your account first. While I have been using Digit since January of 2016, I have yet to have them overdraft my account. Week by week I keep saving, and Digit keeps rocking at what they do.
Free to Get Started
While Digit has recently started charging $2.99/month to save your money for you, they offer a pretty awesome “try before you buy” kind of deal. For the first 100 days that you use Digit’s services, you will not be charged. If you decide it isn’t for you (which I doubt you will), you can deactivate your account and be on your way. If you are stoked about the money Digit has saved you, just keep on doing nothing and watch the money roll into your savings!
Text to Withdraw
One of my favorite Digit features is that the money that I am saving is simply a text message away. If I hit a point where I need to make a withdrawal, I simply reply to my last text from Digit with the word “withdraw”, Digit asks me how much I would like to withdraw, and I respond and generally see the money in my account the next business day!
This also works if I want to save a few extra dollars. I simply text Digit, tell it to save, it asks me how much, and moves the money. Pretty cool eh?
Savings Bonuses
Everything sounding good so far? How about this neat little tidbit; Digit will also pay you bonuses to save with them! Every three months, Digit pays you a bonus of 1%. That means you are now getting paid to do nothing and save money doing it…this seems like my kind of a deal!
There’s an App for that!
I know, I know, there is an app for everything nowadays, but guess what? Digit is no different, and has created an app to add convenience to your life by providing you with all of your savings information right at the tip of your fingers.
I know you may be overwhelmed and that you may still be on the fence, but I assure you, Digit was one of my best choices in 2016! Sign-up is super easy, and you can get started here. Not only that, but for every friend or family member that you sign up, you will get a $5 account bonus. I am telling you, it will be your favorite new way to boost your rainy day fund!

Never heard of Digit but I am going to check it out! That’s so great you can text to withdraw, makes things so simple! Although to save money, maybe they should make it harder to withdraw from the account right? 🙂 Thanks for the review and recommendation!
