Organize your Mom Life Today!

So you have decided to make the jump into organized mommyhood, but do not know where to start? Yeah, neither did I. I am here to tell you, however, that organizing your days with your kiddos is much easier than you may believe!

You see, I too was in your shoes not all that long ago. My mommy friends would ask what my plans were for the week, and I was able to provide a great answer, “I have no idea!”. With that in mind, my days were often double and triple-booked. My family was always on the run, my kids were tired by 2 pm, and I was getting nothing on my to-do list accomplished.

Insert organization.

Obviously, my life did not magically organize itself overnight. With a few products, a little time, and a nice beverage, I know my daily activities for the week before my coffee is gone Monday morning!

Daily Planner

First and foremost, in order to organize, I had to acquire a good daily planner. While there are all kinds of planners out there, I chose one that had a calendar layout for each month. My planner also has enough space to make notes on my day-to-day activities. If you are anything like me, your days become super busy with multiple activities per day, and you will need that extra space! While I am totally in love with the Erin Condren planners, I decided to go with a less pricey planner for my first one.

Wet Erase Calendar Board

This is my bread and butter! I picked up a wet-erase calendar board, and I absolutely love it! If you are super visual, like me, this is an awesome way to organize. Wet erase-works best because little fingers do not smear it as easily. I pick a day, usually, the last Sunday of the month,  sit down, and write out my calendar for the next month. Then, the calendar gets hung up on the side of my refrigerator, and my family knows what is happening day to day. Sometimes, I have to take the board down to add a few things, but usually, it is not much. Also, this saves me from hearing “What are we doing today” every morning from my 8-year-old!

Planner Pens

Ok, so one of those little things that amuse me is my fine-point colored planner pins. I have started color coding all of the activities that go into my planner by whose event it is. Then, I know at a glance not only how much I have going on in any given week, but also whose fault it is that I am running my ass off. (Usually, it is my oldest’s fault as she is in 5 million extracurriculars.) Plus, all of the colors look so pretty in my planner!

20 Minutes/ Week

The next thing you need in order to up your organization game is about 20 minutes a week. Yep, that is it. I simply take 20 minutes a week, generally on Sundays, to map out my next week’s plans. I put everything down into my planner, and review the upcoming week’s plans, and I am done! 20 minutes to an easier week? Yes, please!

Coffee/Wine

Ok, so this one is totally optional, but it really helps to drive home the adulting you are accomplishing! Depending on the time of day, I will pour myself a nice glass of coffee or wine. It totally helps me to breathe through the scheduling, plus, once it is done, I swear the beverage tastes even better. Isn’t adulting fun? Don’t you love to organize?

That is pretty well how I do it, folks! Do you have anything different at home that you use to organize? Any tips to help the moms out there get their scheduling on? Post them in the comments below!

    1. I am a firm believer that Wine is an essential part of this list…how else am I or any other mom to come to terms with everything we have told our kids we will do? :p

  1. Loved this article, without my little planner and daily notes I’m truly lost! Sometimes it just feels like we’re running behind schedule all the time 🙄

  2. I love the tips you gave and you really sparked my brain to put a calendar on my refrigerator instead of using the calendar my fiancé and I had been using. It’s pretty hard to set a schedule right now my baby is a newbie and she doesn’t follow any certain schedule but her own lol. I have trained her to go to bed at 8pm but that is about it. Hopefully I’ll be able to implement your tips in a few months!

  3. Love this post. Curious about your planner. Does it it have boxes inside or is it a lined one for every day?
