Make Money Blogging: 5 Ways to Make It Happen as a Momprenuer

When people ask what I do for a living, you would not believe the looks I get when I tell them that I run a blog.

“How in the heck do you make money blogging?”

Yeah, I get that question A LOT.

The answer to that question is generally not something I go into detail on with everyone who asks. The good news is, however, that the answer to how I make money blogging is actually fairly simple when you break it down.

You see, my blog, and blogs like mine, generally make money in several ways. To make things easier for you aspiring mompreneur, I am going to break those ways down.

Ad Networks

By far one of the most popular ways to make money blogging is through the use of ad networks.

These networks are companies who, once you have partnered with them, will display ads through embedded code on your page. In short talk, these are the companies that throw up all of the ad’s that seem to know what you are thinking during your Facebook browsing sessions.

While the major networks are Google(Google Ads) and Yahoo!/Bing (Media.net). These networks are the most popular among new bloggers because they work across several platforms, and tend to accept even bloggers with relatively small followings.

Problem with those networks however, is that you have to hit a minimum payment threshold BEFORE they will actually pay you. Therefore, if you don’t hit “xyz” dollars made in a certain month, you’re not getting paid until the following month.

An ad network I recently started with, FOMO, eliminates that issue by paying out each month, regardless of the amount you make. While they are still relatively new, they are quickly becoming my favorite network to work with. You can find out how to sign up with them and start making money today here.

Sponsored Posts

Another great way that we bloggers make money blogging is through sponsored posts.

In these posts, we partner with other brands to bring products that we love (or maybe just started learning about) to our readers. These brands can range and be anything from cleaning products, to car brands depending on a blogger’s niche and following.

Sometimes these opportunities come to the blogger, and the brand reaches out posing the opportunity for a collaboration. Many times however, the blogger in question actually pitches the brand they are interested in working with. Rates, stipulations, promotion and timelines are all worked out between the brand and the blogger, and before you know it, a sponsored post is born.

Influencer Networks

For the blogger who is not quite ready yet to start pitching brands on their own (or doesn’t know where to find them), Influencer Networks are the place to be.

Influencer Networks allow bloggers to find opportunities from brands who are specifically looking for bloggers. This speeds up the “brand pitching process” and means you can make money blogging faster, pending you get accepted.

Some of my favorite Influencer Networks to work with are as follows:

  • Massive Sway
  • Influencer Central
  • Coopertize
  • Everywhere Society
  • Linqua

Affiliates

Making money blogging can be hard, but with an affiliate network for just about anything, it really doesn’t have to be!

Seriously though. If you are on the internet, and searching for reviews on a product, then click through a link on a blog to that product? Chances are you just clicked an affiliate link.

What does that mean for a blogger, and how do they make money from it though?

Anytime you purchase using an affiliate link, the person whose link you purchased from gets a percentage of the sale. This happens at no additional cost to you, and basically pays the blogger for sharing the product.

Some bloggers will affiliate link ANYTHING in their posts that they can. Good bloggers will link only to those items they actually believe in. No use having a following if they don’t trust the products you are sharing with them, and thus don’t trust you.

If you are interested in looking into becoming an affiliate for some major companies, I suggest starting with ShareaSale.com. They work with a large variety of merchant affiliates and are a great market for beginners and experts alike.

Product Sales

The last well known way that you can make money blogging is through the sale of products that you make.

These products do not always (and often are not) material in nature. While some bloggers will sale shirts, mugs, etc. with their logo or slogan, many bloggers offer a course or e-book on something in their expertise.

Products are developed by the blogger, and are meant to enhance their reader’s experience. If they are done correctly, Product sales can make you a small fortune.

If done incorrectly however, they can lose you your following quicker than snot.

Crazy Mom Talk

While it is very possible to make good money blogging, it is not an easy feat by any means. I tend to find that many bloggers on the internet will try to bait and hook you into signing up for a domain (which is generally an affiliate link, thus making them money) with the promise that you will become rich overnight once starting a blog.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Blogging, like any other business, takes work.

Content, GOOD content, does not create itself.

On top of that, you have to promote said content, provide quality graphics, manage multiple social media sites, run the back end of your blog, pitch companies, brand yourself, research EVERYTHING, and run your editorial calendar, all while ensuring you are working within the legal parameters of the internet.

Sounds easy, right?

Still ready to try your hand and make money blogging?

If you are passionate about sharing your voice on your little corner of the internet however, mama I say go for it! It is totally possible to make money blogging, and though it sounds overwhelming, the experience can be so rewarding.

  1. Love how you ended this post with some real talk! It’s sad how some people try to bait and switch by making it seem like it’s all a walk in the park! Thanks for the influencer network list too; a bunch from your list are new to me so I’ll add them to my list for when I’m ready. xx

  2. I absolutely love blogging and would love to make a full time income from it so I can be a SAHM. I currently work 32 hours a week at Wal-Mart. Although I’m a proud associate and enjoy the company tremendously, I don’t feel fulfilled. I know I was meant to be a writer. It’s a natural talent for me and I’m obsessed with becoming a better person everyday. I started blogging in March 2018 and I haven’t earned anything yet. ($.22 on medianet, but I can’t cash it out). However, I’m determined to be successful blogging and willing to do whatever it takes. #NotAQuitter #GodsPlanForMe #BlogLife

    1. Girl, you follow what you are passionate about! I have learned so much over the last year and a half blogging, and I feel like I learn something new every day! On another topic, check out FOMO. I have been slow going with Media.net as well, but FOMO seen to be a bit more steady.😊
