I feel you.
In 2018, I hit a similar roadblock. I was stuck, stressed, and worn out.
Yet, I knew I was not ready to give up on my business dreams. Therefore, I turned to the world of self-empowering.
I started digging my way through book after book, searching for much-needed inspiration. Title upon title graced my desk, as well as the speakers of my phone.
Following all of this reading, I found that 5 books stood out above the rest in my quest to work on my personal growth.
Therefore, I want to take a few minutes to share these five books personal growth-centered books with you.
Why?
These five books rocked my world in 2018, and I want to see them rock yours now.
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
If I had to name one book that has rocked me to the core and changed my world, this would be it mama.
Written in a very laid-back, conversational tone, Jen has a genius way of shattering your current reality and leaving you empowered to achieve what you previously thought to be unachievable.
Throughout You are a Badass, I found myself questioning the company I keep, reworking my thoughts, and setting goals (so many goals) well above what I previously thought I was capable of.
The best part?
I felt as if Jen was right there with me coaching me to be the best mom boss I can be the whole time. Personal growth became my number one priority, and she was there to cheer me on the whole way.
This is a book I have in print (which is now a highlighted/marked up mess), and that I check out the audio version of off my library app every time it comes available.
It. Is. That. Good.
Rich Bitch by Nicole Lapin
Want to know how to get your money under control, yet continue to be confused or discouraged by the language that comes with financial planning?
Insert Rich Bitch by Nicole Lapin.
A financial guru with a sense of sarcasm, Nicole guides you through her 12-step plan that will have you rethinking everything you thought was wrong about spending money. Mama, you would be shocked at how much your personal growth will soar when you have control of your money situation.
By the end of this book, you find yourself not only empowered to get your finances in control and your ducks in a row, but you feel reassured that you can still afford your daily frappuccino (yes, even on your budget) while you do so.
See mom boss, you can have your coffee and drink it too.
#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
Looking for some major inspiration to get your entrepreneurial butt in gear? Do you find motivation in the success stories of others?
Then you need #GIRLBOSS.
Some of you will remember when the show Girlboss came out on Netflix. Some of you (like me) even binge-watched every episode. (If you didn’t, I am giving you homework. Go do it!!)
But did you know that the series is actually based on a book? This book in fact! This book, by Sophia Amoruso, is the personal account of the last girl in the world you would expect to become a CEO. Not only does Sophia share her story of becoming the CEO of her own company, Nasty Gal, she details the struggles she met along the way. You will join her on her own personal growth journey, which has some major hiccups and great laughs along the way.
For any of you entrepreneur mamas who are on the “can I really do this” struggle bus, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. You are going to find that #GIRLBOSS, while maybe not about your exact industry of choice, is so very relateable to your own journey that you will find yourself laughing and nodding along with Sophia’s own struggles.
And at the end of the day, she will take those relateable moments, and use them to kick your mom’s boss butt into high gear.
Normal Gets You Nowhere by Kelly Cutrone
For me, this book was a rude awakening into what I have yet to achieve, and what I have been holding back due to fear.
You see, throughout my school years fitting the mold meant I was doing something right. It wasn’t until I graduated, had a couple “big girl” jobs, and started branching out my own businesses that I started to sense something was wrong.
Then, I read Normal Gets You Nowhere and realized the mistakes I was making by trying to take the well traveled road.
Kelly has a way of getting into your head, shaking things up, then leaving you dumbfounded with her words. Not only is she blunt and to the point, she is this way and has become SUCCESSFUL, all while doing her own thing on her personal growth journey.
She thrives as a duck in a flock of doves, and strives to teach you that is amazingly acceptable to do the same.
She Means Business by Carrie Green
Last but certainly not least, She Means Business is a book I believe every boss babe should have on her shelf!
Another successful female entrepreneur, Carrie Green shares her story throughout this book in a way that will engage, encourage, and empower you to do the same.
She does not just share her personal growth journey, however. She also offers you the material you need to grow your own business, using tactics she used on her own journey.
There has never been a better time to become your own boss, creating a life you love is just a couple of decisions away. Carrie is here to give you advice, tips, and insight into the entrepreneurial world, it is up to you to take that information to the next level, and make it happen for you! As an aspiring mom boss, however, we all know you are totally going to rock out all of her advice.
Crazy Mom Talk
Mama, these books have literally changed my life over the course of the last year.
Some of the concepts and advice shared, I have taken to heart, implemented, and have already warranted some amazing results. I want this for you in 2019, which is why I am sharing this list with you today.
From here, it is up to you to decide if you are ready to dive head first into the world of these AMAZING female powerhouses, or if you want to just continue reading about books you want to read in the future. While I hope you will do the former, your success as a mom boss is ultimately up to you!
In the meantime, if you have read one of these amazing books or one like it, please let me know in the comments below! I am always looking for new and inspiring material to take me to the next level on my own personal growth journey, and you can never stop learning.
Until next time!
